Car Insurance Honda (Car Insurance). Whats wrong with my 93 Acura Legend?

Whats wrong with my 93 Acura Legend? I took my car to another city (big mistake) and it was already unreliable. I was driving on the road on my way back and as soon as I eased off the gas, the car started making a funny noise. When I took my foot fully off the gas pedal, it felt like the breaks locked and no matter the speed...the wheels will just stop moving altogether but my car was still on. I was in another city so I decided to keep driving home so I wouldn't be stranded. As I continued, the car just stop going. I stopped and turned the car off. When I turn it back on and started it, it worked just fine. When I changed the gear to drive, it just made a noise but didn't move. When I tried to switch it to the other gears, it did the same thing. Can anybody tell me whats wrong with it? Someone told me the transmission. Someone else said it might be the ball joints.

It's not ball joints. First you need to get trans fluid checked to see if full, if low add and see what happens, if starts working ok get trans checked for leak and service trans. If fluid full may have to replace trans. Do not get rebuilt, get re-manufactured one, will have warranty. it,s not the ball joints. transmission, maybe. maybe the fluid and filter needs changing or it,s low on fluid.

Honda . Honda Civic Lower Ball Joint Removal

The lower ball joint on your Honda Civic serves as a steering linkage and steering knuckle pivot support. Although strong and efficient, ball joints require replacement from time to time. If this is the first ball joint replacement job on your Civic car, become familiar with the suspension of your particular model. Always work on one suspension at a time, leaving the other one for reference and, during installation, torque bolts as required by Honda.
Removing the Steering Knuckle/Hub Assembly
Before raising the front wheel with the lower ball joint you are replacing, on the axle spindle nut, lift the lock tab from the groove using a drift punch. Then loosen the axle nut with an axle nut socket.

Once you lift and remove the wheel/tire assembly, remove the brake caliper. Make sure to tie the caliper to the coil spring or some other suitable component using a heavy wire. This will prevent damage to the hydraulic hose attached to the caliper. If your Civic model comes equipped with anti-lock brakes (ABS), you must detach the sensor and move it aside--but do not unplug the electrical connector. When ready, remove the brake rotor from the wheel assembly.

To disconnect the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle, use a tie-rod end removal tool. In most cases, you will not have to use a special tool to detach the upper and lower ball joints from the upper and lower control arms. However, if the ball joints seem stuck, use penetrating lubricant first. If that does not work, use a ball joint separator.

Once the steering knuckle is free, pull the steering knuckle/hub assembly from the axle spindle. If necessary, tap lightly on the spindle to release the knuckle from the hub splines.
Removing the Lower Ball Joint
The ball joint boot snap-ring can be pried off with a suitable tool. In most cases, the boot need not be replaced if it is in good condition. However, if the boot is worn it might be a good idea to do so at this point.

When ready, install a ball-joint removal/installer tool around the ball joint spindle and reinstall the ball-joint castle nut to hold the tool in place. Then set the steering knuckle with the ball joint tool installed and a ball-joint removal base tool on large vise. Use the vise and the ball-joint tools installed to press the ball joint off the steering knuckle.

Install the new ball joint using the same tools and procedure. Make sure to pack the inner boot with chassis grease before installing it. Use a boot clip guide tool to replace the snap ring.

Honda . How to Remove a Ball Joint From a Steering Knuckle

Ball joints can be removed either for replacement or to access other parts in the front axle. While often times ball joints can last the life of the vehicle, driving on rough terrain tends to shorten their lifespan. Removing ball joints requires automotive knowledge to identify parts correctly and physical strength for the separating of the upper and lower ball joints. Depending on the vehicle this will take approximately three hours. New ball joints typically come with new castle nuts and cotter pins, so the old ones can be discarded.
Difficulty:Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Jack
Jack stands
Air compressor
Impact wrench
Impact socket set
Axle nut socket
Socket wrench
Socket set
Large, flat tipped screwdriver
Cold chisel
Special driver for caliper bolts
Special driver for outer hub bolts
Hammer
Needle-nose pliers
Snap ring pliers
Ball joint separator

Step by Step :
1
Park your vehicle in an area that is flat, preferably on concrete. Apply the emergency brake, and block both sides of the rear wheels. Jack up the front of the vehicle and se jack stands or blocks for additional support of front end. Remove the front wheel of the vehicle.
2
Unscrew the bleeder screws on calipers. Use channel lock pliers to squeeze the brake caliper pistons. Keep constant pressure on the caliper at all times. When the caliper is depressed enough to move freely, retighten the bleeder screw. Use the special caliper bolt driver to remove bolts on the brake caliper.
3
Use a hub bolt driver to remove bolts from outer hub. Take off the small snap ring from the inner hub assembly, then the large locking ring. Use needle-nose pliers to pull out the hub. Use axle nut socket to remove the retaining nut. Remove the keeper with needle-nose pliers. Remove inner nut with an axle nut socket.
4
Remove the rotor by sliding it off axle. Be careful to not drop the outer wheel bearing as you remove the rotor. Remove the nuts that hold the spindle and the backing plate. Remove the spindly by gently tapping on the spindle flange; this completes the removal of the hub assembly.
5
Remove cotter pins from castle nuts on the upper and lower ball joints. Remove cotter pins from the castle nut on the drag link joint and the drag link connection. Use a ball joint separator to separate the drag link connection from the steering arm. Remove castle nuts from both ball joints. Use a ball joint separator and a hammer to detach the upper and lower ball joints. Remove the snap rings that connect ball joints to the knuckle by carefully tapping them with hammer. The ball joints can now be removed from the steering knuckle.
Tips & Warnings
When the vehicle has over 50,000 miles and needs the ball joint removed for another purpose, use the opportunity to replace the ball joints.

Be sure not to hammer on any mating surfaces or mounting surfaces.

Chapter 15: Changing Your Oil 22 1 Using aftermarket additives: Should you or shouldn't you? You can buy three basic types of aftermarket additives in auto parts stores, each of which is designed to augment the additives in the oil itself (discussed in the "Oil additives" section earlier in this chapter). The first type thickens the oil. The second type loosens junk and dissolves gummy deposits. The third type acts as a friction lubricant to make the oil "tougher" under high extremes of temperature and usage. Remember that most oils that don't advertise the presence of additives already have most of this stuff in them, and no amount of additional additives can improve the performance of oil unless the oil you started with was of the best grade. If you buy a well-known brand, you get all the protection you need in these categories if your engine is in reasonably good shape. If you use API-rated oil of the proper weight and classification and change it often, I'd leave the rest of the additives on the store shelves. They may provide temporary relief if the engine is disintegrating, but they're not a cure for a worn-down, filthy, miserable old engine. Two types of oil are on the market: single-viscosity oil and multi-viscosity oil. (These are also called single-weight and multi-weighty Automakers rate oil viscosity according to the temperature range expected over the oil change period. The lower the number, the thinner the oil and the more easily it flows. In 10W-40 oil, for example, the two numbers mean that it's a multi-viscosity or multi-weight oil that's effective over a range of temperatures. The first number, 10, is an index that refers to how the oil flows at low temperatures. The second number, 40, refers to how it flows at high temperatures. The W designation means that the oil can be used in winter. To decide which viscosity to choose, look in your owner's manual for an oil viscosity chart. Just select the range of temperatures in any location where you plan to spend a good deal of time driving, and look on the chart for the multigrade oil recommended for that area. If you don't have an owner's manual, check with your dealer. Oil classification codes The oil industry has adopted a symbol to certify that a particular motor oil meets the latest industry requirements for protection against deposits, wear, oxidation, and corrosion. This symbol on oil container labels (see Figure 15-3) means that the oil meets American Petroleum Institute (API) service requirements identified by classification codes. The symbol also means that the oil 740 Car Insurance 2003 lexus rx 299103

Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System meets the Energy Conserving II requirements (it improves fuel economy by reducing engine friction). All tested oils carry the symbol. Oils without the symbol may not perform as well. The codes for vehicles with gasoline engines started with SA in the early 1960s. As engines became more demanding and oil improved, the codes progressed over the years from SB up to SJ (the best oil available in 1999). You can use this oil (and any future grades that come along) in a vehicle of any age to make the engine run and feel better. All the major brands of engine oil with the API symbol are equally good. A CF (or higher) designation means that the oil has been tested for use in diesel engines and is the latest, most advanced oil for diesels. Figure 15-3: The API symbol. Hou) to Choose Oil for }/our Vehicle If all the preceding variables have you wondering how you're going to choose the right oil for your vehicle, ask yourself the following questions: * What kind of oil have you been using? If you have an old vehicle that's been running on single-weight oil for most of its life, it's built up quite a bit of sludge because some single-weight oils don't have detergent in them. If you suddenly switch to a multi-viscosity oil, the detergent in it will free all that gook in your engine, and the gook will start to slosh around and really foul things up. It's better to let sleeping gook lie unless you want to invest in having your engine cleaned. The engine would have to be taken apart and put back together again, and you could start trouble where none existed before. If your car is running well, don't switch to another oil. Stick with the same old stuff you've been using.

Honda . Why are you using cars more?

Nissan Maxima.
*
How old is the oil in your car? How many miles have you driven it? If your car has been logging a great many miles and has been running on 30- or 40-weight oil, multi-weight oil is not going to be consistently thick enough to lubricate the worn engine parts, which have become smaller while wearing down, leaving wider spaces between them. To keep the oil thick enough to fill these gaps, switch to heavier single-weight oil as your car gets older and starts to run more roughly or to burn up oil Chapter 15: Changing Your Oil more quickly. If you've been running on 30-weight oil, switch to 40weight, at least during the summer, when oil tends to thin out. The manual for Tweety Bird (my faithful 1967 Mustang) called for 10W-40 oil, but when she had more than 80,000 miles to her credit, I put her on straight 40-weight oil. There's even 50-weight oil for the real oldies! V What kind of oil does your owner's manual recommend? Is your vehicle still under warranty? Be sure to use whatever weight of oil the owner's manual recommends; the manufacturer knows what's best for each vehicle it produces. Using something other than the recommended oil may invalidate the warranty on a new vehicle. f* Do you live where it's very cold? Hot? Is it mountainous? Are there sharp changes in temperature where you live or where you're going? Multi-weight oils cover a range of temperatures. Consult a viscosity chart to be sure that the oil you use will flow properly under extreme conditions. Whenever you buy oil, look for major brands, such as Pennzoil, Quaker State, and Valvoline, or check Consumer Reports. Good brands of oil are often on sale in supermarkets and at auto supply stores, so if you want to save money

and you spot a sale, buy a case and stash it away. No matter how crazy about recycling you are, never put recycled oil in your precious car. You don't know where that stuff has been. Synthetic oil A lot of claims have been made about synthetic had synthetic oils in their engines. There's no oils, such as longer intervals between oil doubt, however, that synthetic oils perform changes, less wear on engine Darts, and being better than mineral oils at high temperatures.
